My Favorite Time of Year
Autumn in Phoenix does not bring massive color changes in the trees or the crispness in the air of impending snow, but it does create a sense of excitement in me. After surviving another summer here, it's time to get out of the a/c and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. I invite you all to come down to Roosevelt Row and experience the many exciting events happening in the area. Check out our calendar of events on our website to get all the inside information. If you haven't been to First Friday in awhile, you might be surprised to see how it has grown! Or enjoy a Saturday morning shopping spree at the Downtown Public Market. And while you're here, take a stroll around in this beautiful weather and visit some of the award-winning restaurants and boutiques in our area. Enjoy this time, because as we all know, it won't last!

It's amazing how much First Fridays has grown; it draws thousands of people out now.
I don't think it happened, but in December Phoenix police and members of Roosevelt Row talked about closing off a second street for more vendors. As it is, the area gets incredibly crowded.
Scheduling conflicts usually ensure I can't make it out until after 8 or 9 p.m., but in my opinion, that's the best time for attending. The college-aged crowd comes out in droves and the atmosphere gets very lively. Unlike other college events, things don't get out of control. People use the atmosphere constructively—painting murals, forming dance circles and making music. It's a carnival of spontaneous creation.
I hope you guys keep this up. First Fridays had become a focal point for Phoenix culture. For one night a month, the whole area really comes alive.
